The following Flood Alert Update was received from the Environment Agency at 1610on 7th December 2021 for Southampton Water and Hamble. The total forecast tide height overnight 5.04m, much lower than it was this afternoon:
“Flooding is possible for: Coast around Southampton Water including Calshot, Lepe and the Hamble Estuary. Be prepared.
“Wednesday’s early morning tide at 01:18 and 03:18 on 08/12/2021 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Westerly Force 5 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.48 m. The total forecast tide is 5.04 metres Chart Datum (2.3 mAOD) at Southampton. The tide will be much lower than it was this afternoon, but the residual impacts from Storm Barra may still cause some minor impact flooding along the estuary front. For 30 minutes either side of high water, the tide may affect roads and car parks at The Quay Hamble, Rising Sun Pub Warsash, Magazine Lane at Marchwood, Shore Road and Promenade, Hythe. After this tide‚ the weather becomes more settled, and no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast. Avoid parking in low lying coastal car parks and plan driving routes to avoid the roads listed above. We will remove this message by 11:00 on 08/12/2021.“
